Nestle and Reagan

ADOPTED:  Nestle and Reagan’s mom was rescued off the streets of Germantown in her last full day of pregnancy.  She gave birth in foster care the day following her rescue.  She and her 5 kittens were all adopted.  Below is a comment and some pictures received from Nestle and Reagan’s new adoptive mom and dad, Melissa and Andy……….

Nestle and Reagan have brought so much joy and happiness to us.  These two guys are inseparable.  Nestle purrs as loud as a lawn mower while Reagan’s purr is soft and low.  In the wee hours of the morning both kittens jump on our bed and look for immediate affection and then finish sleeping the night by our feet.  We just love having Nestle and Reagan in our lives.

Hi. We’ve had Nestle and Reagan for almost 3 years. They are the greatest cats ever. Nestle is our “Dog Wanna Be” and walks outside on a leash. He actually meow’s at the door when I get home and let’s me know it is time for our daily walk. Reagan is a bit more shy on the outside walking and enjoys sitting at the door/window and watching with Andy. These guys are our pride and joy. . . so much fun!

      Hi Melissa,
That’s so cute that Nestle likes to walk on a leash. I don’t think I knew that unless you told me and I forgot. Now my curiosity is piqued so I have a question for you….does Nestle like to go for a walk in all kinds of weather, like if it’s snowing or chilly? I can’t imagine he’d like going out in the rain (who does)but I am curious about his desire to go out if it’s cold.

Unbelievable that it’s almost 3 years already since you adopted Nestle and Reagan. Whew! Please tell me where’d the time go?

Well, to answer your question. . . Nestle will walk outside on his leash in ANY type of weather. We were outside today and it was damp and drizzling. He investigates everything he passes. Reagan was outside on his leash today too. . .he likes to sit and smell the flowering bushes. They are going for their 3 Year checkup at the vet tomorrow morning. Wish us all luck as they don’t particularly care for riding in the car in their carriers. They meow the entire way there and back. The vet loves them because they are not too fussy with her.

Well, good luck on the 3 year check-up and the drive to and fro. I know what you mean about the crying during the car ride. When they do that it stresses me out because there’s nothing I can do to ease their anxiety and calm them down. I find the more I talk to them, the louder they get. By now I should have learned to keep my mouth shut and just drive. But who can ignore that crying?

I’m astonished that Nestle likes to go out in all kinds of weather. He really is a doggie-wanna-be, isn’t he? Fascinating!

        Have a great weekend!

Nestle and Reagan did great on their 3 year vet visit. They had blood work done which the vet said was beautiful and they found no parasites in their stool. They are both in the 15 lb range so the vet said that is about 1-2 lbs too heavy. We’ll keep an eye on their diet and snacks. They don’t look big at all to us. Unfortunately, Reagan is in need of dental care due to gingivitis. Therefore, we are going to do the best thing for both boys and have set up a teeth cleaning for both in a few weeks. I have tried home remedies but brushing their teeth is the absolute last thing they will let me do. We do feed them science diet oral care. . .which Nestle is more of a fan than Reagan. The vet said it could be genetics why one cat is more prone to gingivitis than the other. Poor Andy is dropping them off on the day of their visit. He’s already crushed about it. . . but we love our boys too much to let that stand in the way of their good health. Wish them luck. . .

      Hi Melissa,
Geez, I can’t believe how big they’ve gotten! Just goes to show how well cared for they are. You’re doing the right thing by getting their teeth cleaned. Untreated gingivitis can progress. I copied the following information from the internet:
“Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal disease. Infection and inflammation spreads from the gums to the ligaments and bone that support the teeth. Left untreated, loss of support causes the teeth to become loose and eventually fall out. [1] Unhealthy teeth & gums have greater impact on the body than just causing bad breath, pain & infection. As the gums have a rich blood supply, bacteria is readily transported to other organs
(such as the liver, kidneys etc.) in the body causing damage & even organ failure.”
So you’re doing a good thing for the boys. But I know you already know this. Tell Andy not to feel bad. They’ll be fine and they’ll come home with sparkling teeth and healthier gums!! Give them both a kiss for me.

Hi Everyone. Nestle and Reagan had their teeth cleaned today. They are in recovery and doing well at the vet. Andy will pick them up at 5:30PM today. We are excited to get them back home and with clean and healthy teeth and gums.

Yay! The boys came thru without a hitch! They’ll be so glad to get home and get something to eat, they’ll forget all about it. But if they’re a bit peeved, who can blame them? Nobody likes the dentist!
